Gert Elfering

Gert Elfering is an expert in his field: photographer, gallery-owner, serious long term collector of photographic art and a respected and published authority on art.

Mr Elfering has over the years, amassed an extensive collection of iconic photographic images by some of the world’s greatest photographers and has sold some pieces from his collection at Christie’s New York and Paris with five separate sales from 2005 to 2010 with the $50,000,000 raised representing a 600% return on purchase.

Simon Bainbridge

Following 12 years in arts and entertainment publishing, Simon took over as editor of British Journal of Photography in 2003, planning and conceptualising its relaunch in 2010 as a premium monthly magazine, and launching an award-winning iPad app the following year. In addition, he has curated two exhibitions – Paper Rock Scissors: The Constructed Image in New British Photography at Flash Forward Festival in Toronto, and Time & Motion Studies: New documentary photography beyond the Decisive Moment at Hereford Photography Festival 2011. He has acted as a judge and/or nominator on many international contests, including the Prix Pictet, the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize, the Hasselblad Award and the Sony World Photography Awards, and is a regular portfolio reviewer at festivals in the UK and abroad.

Susie Babchick

Susie Babchick is a London based photography consultant. She is on the Board of Trustees for the Corinne Day Estate and has curated photography exhibitions with Gimpel Fils gallery. She has worked alongside artists for exhibitions at Photographers’ Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, V&A, Institute of Contemporary Arts and Host Gallery. She is currently a photography consultant for Glass Magazine and has produced photographic shoots for Vogue, The New York Times, The Telegraph Magazine, Traveller, i-D Magazine, Intelligent Life Magazine as well as for The Gap, Thomas Burberry, Vivienne Westwood and Ungaro amongst others. Babchick brings her experience in working with photographers, editors and commissioners to the Photo Art Fair to create a vibrant exhibition for selected artists and photography patrons.

Show Features

Photo Art Fair will allow visitors the unique opportunity to purchase collectable photographs direct from undiscovered and well-known artists. Visitors will be able to see and buy pieces from established names alongside the up-and-comers. Prices range from between £500 and £10,000 and visitor will be able to buy works from recognizable names in the photography world as well as those fresh on the art radar.

What is the Photo Art Fair?

The Photo Art Fair is a four-day exhibition of carefully curated, collectable works from up to 50 international photographers. As a brand new show, the Photo Art Fair is designed to provide visitors with the unique opportunity to purchase collectable photographs direct from both undiscovered and emerging artists.

Photo Art Fair’s central manifesto of ‘intelligent collecting’ will connect photographers with established and potential collectors.

Hundreds of photographic art works will be available at the exhibition with an online gallery to cater to international buyers and enthusiasts around the world which will launch on May 6.

In addition to the new and established talents on display, the exhibition will see Gert Elfering’s personal collection of previously unseen works of Will McBride, which includes reportage and portrait images.

The event will also feature panel discussions, talks, Q&As and workshops from some of the most established and talented practitioners in their field. Panel discussions will focus on some of the current debates surrounding contemporary photography. Workshops on how to collect intelligently will be chaired by the selection committee and tastemakers in the photography world which will also include talks by photographers who will reveal the stories and inspiration behind their work.

The Photo Art Fair aims to be a journey of inspiration through different genres of photography and a celebration of the technological developments, digital and multimedia breakthroughs.
